2013 Assembly – the assembly committee will be meeting at the Federal Way  Rock Pasta Sunday May 22nd @ 7pm, and may be meeting monthly at possibly the same place.  Will have Tacoma and Enumclaw attendees to help with finding a location.  Still looking at Muckleshoot , Tacoma Landmark, and Puyallup fair grounds for locations.

Dist 32 Picinic - Asked for signup sheets to be given, got 2.  Crocket sets are possibly procured from FWMS.  Also have a tentative grocery list.   The date is July 17th.  Dist storage has volleyball nets, coolers, and other stuff.  Chairs may be an issue and may ask folks to bring there own.  Tables are no problem.  Sheila says she needs sign up sheets next month.  Need BBQs.  John M. is willing to provide cups, plates and utensils.  Still determining a theme.  Coffee is covered by district.  Last year had low attendance at 112.  expecting a large turn out this year, around 200.  Last year we ran out of hotdogs.  Meat will be gotten from Fort Lewis thru James.  Had 3 BBQs last year which was barely sufficient.  7th tradition will be held for church donation since the church does not charge for the use of the facility.  Did have a post picnic meeting.  Spent over $500 last year, and will surely spend that plus more this year.

Area Delegate NY General Service Conference May 1-7 61nd Report

Western Washington Delegate – Debbie A.

Debbie’s first trip as delegate.  Passed around reports for review.  Debbie was chosen for the Corrections panel/committee.  Displayed an information board with pictures of the event and the facility.  Shared lots of pictures of NY.  Debbie was very enthralled with the archives.  Showed a picture of the GV reps desk… VERY full of submittals!  Brought back lots of lanyards, buttons, pens, mouse pad, and other assembly items.  Took her first subway ride.  Was able to mingle with many Pacific Region reps whom she was acquainted with.  Got to visit Ground Zero.  Was intrigued by the lengths some Delegates go to reach area meeting… eg; in Alaska it is common to have to take a plane because the area is so spread out.  Sunday got into panel work.  Was very impressed by the Non-Alcoholic trusted servants who come to NY up to 4Xs a year… and don’t even get paid!  They just seem to Love AA.  Debbie reviewed how the panel worked on the “Sure Beats Sitting In A Cell” publication.  This was very close to Debbie’s heart because the base of her service work has been in the Corrections area.  Briefed us on other items that were worked on.  GV&L had huge amounts of work as a committee.  “Anonymity  our spiritual responsibility in a digital age” will be next years theme.  The finance committee worked on “where money and spirituality meet” will be updated with more pie charts.  It will reflect more latitude in the splits suggested.  The financial committee voted not to put together the treasures pamphlet that was proposed because it is all avail free on line for download.  Spirituality pamphlet in regards to an atheists perspective was discussed and it looks in favor to have this be added in a stand alone pamphlet or possibly a book. There were very tasteful drafts submitted.  There were international attendees from Peru & Great Britian, that were voted in to allow to observe the conference.  It was very touching.  Moving the deadline date for item submittals was voted down and will stand as is.  Technology has made it easier to accomplish in time.  PI committee will be doing random surveys of groups and if any in our area are chosen Debbie will contact us.  Report & Charter committee, their task was to review the concepts… very dry.  Treatment committee changed the name to Treatment/Special Needs.  Because Accessibility tends to fall onto this desk in NY.  Trustees Committee voted on many positions.  Archives had nothing come out.  International conference showed a huge profit and it went into the General Fund.  Encouraged GSRs to attend Regional Forums.   GV committee informed the AAgrapevine.org has been re-launched.  The GV hard copy is likely to die due to lack of subscriptions and funding, by next year.  Digital is being pushed hard as means to keep it alive.  Digital is the way of the young generation.  There is now a means to click and have it read to you for those who are blind or can not read.  EBook project should be available for the BB & 12x12 in Nov/Dec.  It will go thru the Apple app (downloadable from GSO website for free, but at a cost at Apple)  and then the Android after that.  AA lost the copy right to our “concepts” because we failed to re-up the copy right fees in 1989(?).  Rights to the first and second BB editions were lost sometime ago and belong to the public domain.  Unicron response was altered to only be in the very last frame on such material.  Basic financial report from the conference is that GSO brought in 9+ mil. After all costs, and only because of, and thanks to, the International, profits we are positive 1+ mil.  The International Anniversary conference was far and above expected attendance.  Bottom line is if every member gave directly $6 year to GSO then GSO would be self supporting.  If contributions were to stop today, GSO would die in 9 months.

We thanked Debbie for her time and enthusiastic commitment as our Area Delegate.  Her humbleness and accessibility made for a very enlightening, enjoyable and informative report.

Committee Reports

DCM -  Bob H.  -  Went to business quarterly on Widbey Island.  Defrayed expenses with another member.  Reviewed pre-assembly items and established group pre-assembly meetings.  Area Corrections rep requested each GSR to bring a used soft cover 12x12, or other literature, with no writing to the pre-assembly for donation if possible.  There are new group change forms on the website. 2011 Local Forum Sept 9-11, Richland Wa.  We are in the Aug 9th rotation.  There are motions and they have been emailed to the GSRs.  Nip any scuttle of dist level service work as being “political” by making reference to it as more of the mechanics of AA.  Inform that feeling it as political is liken to “contempt prior to investigation!”  Tue Auburn Stag requested Bob to assist with their group inventory.  $17 collected this evening for 7th tradition.  Report accepted.

ALT DCM  -  Jordan   - Freedom in Sobriety grp has been selected for a GSO 2011 membership survey.  New employment may require Jordan to step down from Alt position.  To be determined.  Report accepted.

SECRETARY - Dale B. -  Purposed that secretary take on the responsibility of processing new GSR information forms.  Group concured.  Report accepted.

TREASURER - Tony H. - On a fishing trip.  No report given.

CPC - Matt V. – Not Present.  John Paul reports that the final presentation at Fed Way High (1st time) went well.  Very positive feed back.  Kids were actively sharing experiences in class for a number of days afterwards.  No other report given.

P.I. - Aliza L.  -  Transportation challenges has hampered checking all of the racks, but some have been re-filled.  Aliza’s rotation is coming up.  She has been cataloging all inventory and information.  Report accepted.

Webmaster - Wayne O.  -  Dist meeting verbal report:  Updated website with current activities.   Will hold off on persuing district “business” cards until our Treasurer returns.  Try not to hand out old meeting flyers, saw a 2008 given out to a new comer this past month.  Please have your groups pull any old ones, prior to May 2011.  Report accepted.

EMail Submitted Report:  I have update the Minutes to date on the website, also I have got a few more schedule changes on the area website. All activities that have been sent to me are posted.  ALL GROUPS NEEDING TO POST THERE POTLUCKS AND ACTIVITIES, EMAIL ME A PDF OR WORD DOC SO I CAN POST THEM.  I am going ask to use  WEBMASTER budget to print District 32 business card for the groups to use in their literature racks, making a little easier for members to find the website.  Would like to remind the GSR’s of removing OLD district schedules from their literature racks, this could be misleading to the newcomer if he or she get one with wrong information.( on a given day someone might really need a meeting that day and find the meeting is moved or no longer exists. Hope might not be there when needed)

Accessibility - OPEN POSITION  PLEASE SOLICIT YOUR GROUPS!!

G.V.L. – John M.  -  District GVL chairs have been discussing the cloud of dist level service work being “political.”  Still feels that group level GVLs are not as active as they could effectively be.  GV is on the edge and likely to disolve as a hard copy, due to not being self supporting.  District level GVL’s feel that the group level representatives need to be informing at the group level the value of the GV to the alcoholic, as a means of being pro-active so that we may be able to keep it alive.  One idea was that when groups break up into smaller meeting, to purhaps call a GV reading as a topic.   Report accepted.

Treatment – Emden G.    Meetings at SeaMar and Sound Mental Health coming up.  Emden will be moving and may have to give up his position.  Report accepted.

GVL Quarterly Hosting Dec 2nd  -  Will be here at Brooklake.  Requires flyer, donuts, lunch ect.  Briefly discussed financial structure.

New Business

Aliza – PI position used many used GVs which are now depleted.  They move very fast in the doctor offices.  Motioned to purchase more older GVs and/or any donations.   John M. suggested first to go to the groups and request any older GVs for donation.   Group chose to try the donation process first.   PI & GVL budget surplus at the end of the year may be used for this purpose.

Group Reports

Federal Way Women – Sheila C. -  Not much to report our business would have been July 4th this year. We had an attendance of two, our group conscious was not to have a business meeting.  Our group conscious last Monday the 11th, was to skip our July meeting. Made all the necessary announcements and filled all the service positions for July - Dec.

Auburn Alkees – Dale B.  -  Treasure, InterGrp, Corrections, & GSR reports given and accepted.  Book Drive went VERY well! 5 ea. BB’s & 11 ea. 12x12’s from GSO, stocked brochures and had 3 BB’s donated. Voted in new Chip Chick; Jessica  &  new Chairperson; Joe V. to replace Travis.  Annual camp out Aug 12th-14th coming together well.  Still have 3 camp sites we need to sell.  Travis stepped down as Campmaster and Julie G. accepted position.  May have a silent auction.  For some large donated items during the raffle.  Standing Campout committee meeting for the next 4 weeks.  Intergroup Dinner Meeting themes for July was BBQ!!  Attendance was 16, with 4 of them 1st  timers with under 60 days sobriety!  July’s theme yet to be determined.

We are having issues with other groups using Just4Today’s Podium, we are finding dents and Double back sticky tape on the front where it has been covered up, not sure who is using it yet, and we don’t mind groups using it but it has to be respected when use.  Brooklake multi-group Potluck had a Great turnout.

Federal Way Sunday Step – John M. – Picnic potluck Aug 28th 6pm

GVL Quarterly Hosting Dec 2nd  -  May be here at Brooklake.  Requires flyer, donuts, lunch ect.  Briefly discussed financial structure.

New Business

Area Assembly   Flyer is in solicitation for items of interest or concern from groups in the area to be brought to the microphone at the Assembly.  Reviewed the 4 motioned items as a group.

Item 1 – “The information from the Area Newsletter be made available on the Area Website”

-          Current consensus seems to be that we must be up to speed with the digital age.  That the hard copy is not being used and that if it were available on the web it’s content would be used to a larger extent.  Some concern was displayed that the business side of AA is not something the general Fellowship is interested in and that the effort may be in vein.  Counter rebuttle was that it is not so much about politics as it is about holding to the traditions and that it’s availablility should be maximized.  Input was given as to an opt out selection for the hardcopy.  Concern was shared regarding if the information is even being used by those receiving it in hardcopy.  Note to group, this item is not in any way addressing the discontinuance of the hardcopy,,, it is strictly regarding wether or not to put the information on the web.

Item 2 – “Area 72 Appointed Trusted Servants be given full “Right of Participation” as defined in Concept IV in Area 72 Quarterlies and Assemblies.”

-          Bob defined selected positions within Area 72 with the GSRs.  Also reviewed the scenerio were such a position can vote at the group level as well as then at the quarterly as the appointed position.  Concern about the minority opinion option being open to these positions to sway with strong weight in opinion to the GSR’s.

Item 3 – “We respectfully request that the General Service conference have a collection of Grapevine stories on gratitude published as a book.”

-          Point was stressed that the Grapevine publication is on the chopping block as we speak.  General group concious seemed to be that this is a good motion.  Unknown at this time if such stories be gathered from past published stories, new solicitations or unpublished material.  All of the Grapevine books (9) that have been in publication have been, since the conception of such practice, been very profitable.  It is not clear at this time whether the proceed profits of these publications are included in the same ledger as the losses from the Grapevine hardcopy publication.

Item 4 – “We move that WWA 72 increase the corrections literature budget by 30% to $8320.”    -   It was stressed and clearified that the crux of this motion is in the spirit of  maintaining the current level of group corrections literature financial support  currently in place.  This motion is directly in relation to keeping up with the   increased costs of publication costs, and such motions have been accepted in  the past.

Group Reports

Federal Way Women – Sheila C. -  Having our business meeting in another room, with the main meeting in the big room was a good experience for all.  Motion will be typed for our next business meeting to lower our scholarship fund and use the excess money to do a split.  Our expenses have been high and we’ve not used the scholarship fund in awhile.

Passed a motion to keep business meeting at 30 minutes, will get a group conscious if we need to go over 30 minutes.  Next business meeting will review group inventory, if  anyone has issues.  If not it’s considered good.  Outgoing service positions will help the incoming service positions.  Will thank coffee and set up person as part of our preamble

Auburn Alkees – Dale B.  -  Treasure: Larry C. Strong balance, 4 way split; Int 50%. GSO 30%, Area72 10%, Dist32 10% performed.  Campout was strong with $517 from the Raffle & $140 from 7th Tradition.  GSR: Dale B. Took up remainder of business meeting with review and group conscious on the 4 current Assembly items.  Also discussed at length drawing up an official motion (as motioned by TyDye John) to change 11th Tradition to read “… at the level of press, radio, film & internet.”  Will follow up with how to submit a proper official motion to be presented possibly on the floor in October’s Assembly.  Intergroup Dinner Meeting themes for Aug & Sep… BBQ!!  Attendance in Aug was 8.

Just 4 Today Speaker Meeting – Wayne Ohmie – Meeting is going strong with consistence of 100-145 people attending.  Childcare is really doing well with this group, average 5-10 children a week (parents are truly Grateful) CD Prices are now $4 for 2 speakers (still a GR8 Deal) because of Ink prices cost of CD’s and covers. August 20th we will be using a smaller area upstairs to have the meeting for that week only, I believe it will be tight but workable.  We are needing more people to show up for service positions, Set-up, Clean-up, Greeters, Literature

Wednesday Night Women In Recovery – Kim D. – Meeting is stable good attendance.   We need a permanent Intergroup rep right now.  We have a temporary Intergroup rep.  All other positions are filled.  Our group answers phone at Intergroup the first Saturday of each month from 6-10 pm.

Auburn Stag – Terry G. – New GSR. Group inventory was performed.

Big Book Study – Mary D. – We cancelled last month’s meeting because Tony and I couldn’t attend.

Federal Way Sunday Night Step – John M. – Annual Picnic/Birthdays 28 August 2011 @ 6pm Potluck group will provide drinks and BBQ.  Current assembly motions will be distributed to all in attendance on 21 Aug and meetings thereafter will be available and announced.  We are still running under operating requirements but the financial picture looks better since Mary O. began as treasurer in early 2011.  We require $35 a week for rent + coffee and drinks, average 7th tradition is under $27 per meeting.

Auburn Group – Robert P. – New GSR

S.O.S – Thom M. – SOS attendance varies from meeting to meeting but remain steady with a core group of 10 members.

Group Reports

Federal Way Women – Sheila C. - Small business meeting, only 4 in attendance.  Voted to postpone our motion to lower scholarship to next month.  Shannon has announced she needs to step down as our treasurer will have a group conscious to send GSR to the area assembly, using the excess funds in our Scholarship account.

Area 72 CPC Rep presentation: Mark T. - Cooperation with the Professional  Community.  The work the area does at the district level is that which the district may have trouble doing themselves.  Handed out some literature.  Doctors, attorneys, clergy, dentists, treatment facilities, High school health classes, journalists.  AA isnt promoted, but the means by which to get ahold of us is the real objective.  CPC also provides workshops.  CPC goes all the way back to the beginning, Bob & Bill were well involved.  Asked for group feedback on the importance of this committee.  Group responded with personal experience as recipients of direction to AA from the professional community.  Doing and have done... Take a professional to lunch program.  (paid for by AA thru special individual group collections, not districts or area $’s)  Tacoma is fairly involved with utilizing this program a few times a year.  Also invited to various professional conferences, which our committee does respond to.  Most recent one in Kent for a court/justice conference.  School counsoulers conference, which was nationally attended.   Very enlightening, informative and, professionally done!  Thank you Mark!!
