The Meeting was opened with the Serenity Prayer, Preamble and 12 Traditions.

Birthdays for March

Kelly C.G. - 2 years

Mike G. – 6 years

DCM – Mike G.: I got the minutes for last month meeting type up. Note, that I am no English major. I have handed them out for review. Kelly C. volunteers to be Secretary for District 32. A motion for her election to the post was brought and passed. Thanks Kelly. I also made it to the Little Burien Assemble (the one our district sponsors) and the first meeting of ASL at Tuesday Night Step Study. Both went of well. On the question of committees’ budgets, I have look at our district handbook, and found that is no directives on how the budget is to be used, and we have no separated travel budget.  I think the district handbook is in needs of some work. I notice that the Webmaster duty was blank in the handbook. I have the first cut at the register for the GSR sent to the area, please check the excel spreadsheet to see if it is correct. If not, then fill out the sign in sheet in full. The pre conference is next Saturday. I will not be able to make it, due to work. I hope that you all will make it. I have the date for the district 32’s picnic. It will be on July 19th 3pm - 8pm at 5 mile   lake. The cost of the rental is $125.00. So we need to start to organize the committee for the picnic. I guess I can make a flyer for it, and have the first meeting at my house. I also got some email that the area new letter editor is asking for volunteers. I guess she is over whelmed.  A motion was made to approve the report and it was accepted.

Grapevine Literature – Bob H.:  Attend the quarterly in Vancouver, WA. A bunch of Bobs made it down, but Mary did not make it. Archives – Jim C.: This is the Feb / March Report.

Archives quarterly was held February 7th 2009, hosted by district 22 and 56, in Port Townsend Washington, at the Grace Lutheran Church. Trisha C. opened the meeting in the usual fashion with the reading of the Serenity Prayer and 12 Traditions. Announcements included information on the Nat’l Archives Workshop, Sept 24-27 in Woodland Hills California.

History of the hosting districts were read by Rae Ann DCM Dist 56 and Bob DCM Dist 22. Information about new Archivists registering for Markings. The Archives Workbook was shown, which can be purchased or downloaded from the GSO Website. Information about submitting bids for the next 2 year rotation. Area 32 was given archives information from Seattle Intergroup outgoing archivist Karen. Great stuff that will be added to our Archives collection.

Steering Committee, Consultants and District reports were presented. Valuable information was given about the interviewing format for “Old Timers” with guidelines and questions available for download from Area 72 Website. There was also a presentation of the value of having a established Archives budget within your district to preserve monies for anyone to participate as a Archivist regardless of personal financial situation.

A presentation was done by Harriet V. and Sally C. about how District 22 was split into District 55 and 56. Both Harriet V. was the DCM at the time of the split, and Sally C. was the first DCM for District 55.

Lunch, fellowship, and information were all great. Next Quarterly will be May 2, 2009 in Kirkland at the Kirkland Congregational Church.

Mike and I displayed the District 32 archives at the Burien Little Assembly, Saturday March 14th. Good turnout for the assembly with displays shown by Area 72 Archives, Seattle Intergroup Archives, Burien Little Assembly Archives, District 31 and District 32. We had many visitors to the display with lots of interest in the history of Miracle Hall and newly acquired copies of Federal Way Mens Saturday Stage newsletter called “The Morning After” which was donated to us by the Seattle Intergroup. The issues are mainly from 1989 thru 1994.

This is my lat report as District 32 Archivist. I’ve had a wonderful time serving and would like to nominate Mike M. as District 32 Archivist. Mike has archives and has been serving as alternate archivist for many months. I believe Mike is the obvious candidate for the next rotation.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as Archivist.

A motion was made to accept the report and it was passed.

ALT      -  Mike M.: Mike made his qualifications for being the Archivist, and we vote on him in.

Old and New Business:

We still need to get the open positions filled. They are CPC, PI, and Accessibility.

Please bring a dish to pass, Burger and hotdog are provided. This is a growing group with long term and new recovery.

We read about a half of a chapter per meeting out of the recovery section of “Alcoholics Anonymous”. We just finished “To Wives”. We will be starting “Family Afterward”. Most of us were at the Burien Little Assembly, were you?

Federal Way Women:  Becky F. – We are a long standing and strong group. We have a solid core of home group members and active regular attendees. There are three to five new comers a month. We have a Big book and 12 By 12 study, the 2nd and 3rd Mondays. The first Monday is a business meeting: we read a story during the regular meeting. The last Sunday of the month is birthday night – coins, experience-strength-and hope, ask it basket if time allows. We also have a room reserved for a first step study, anytime we have newcomers.

At our last business meeting we passed sign up for service to the Little Burien Assembly, to assist with the archives, 4 members sign up. I am turning in a list of 6 + members, who have signed up to be of service with the July Picnic committee.  We are also looking for a new alternate GSR. Our member needed to step down due to school commitments. We are working to rebuild our prudent reserve. All scholarships for events and Pink Can collection is on hold until we are in the black.

Federal Way Wednesday Open topic:  Bob H.: We are growing, but dying, as one member of our home group took his life (Jason). We have a new sponsorship coordinator – Jim, and we are trying out a new secretary for experience / training to run a meeting.

District Meeting April 20, 2009

The Meeting was opened with the Serenity Prayer, Preamble and 12 Traditions.

Birthdays for March

Teresa – 8 Years

Mike M. announced that the Big Book is 70 years old this month.

DCM – Mike G.: Since the Secretary position had not been filled, Mike prepared the minutes for the March meeting.  Minutes were distributed and approved by the group.  Mike attended the Quarterly area meeting in Mount Vernon and submitted $117.00 in receipts for gas and hotel reimbursement.  During the quarterly several items were discussed.  The Area 72 Archivist, Trish, is working to relocate the repository in Tacoma. It was reported that area home group contributions are down 23% so groups should consider splits whenever possible.  There are three motions on the table for the Annual Assembly: 1) Fully support ASL Services at a district level; 2) Increase mileage allowance to 2/3 of area business rate; and 3) Ask World Services to create pamphlets without staples for use in jails and/or prison institutions.  Let your home groups know that these motions will be coming up and request feedback.  A motion was made to approve the report and it was accepted.

Alt. DCM – Donnie M.: Donnie read through the Alternate DCM job description and noted that the position is responsible for filling open chairs at the District level, but he cannot cover the three current open positions of CPC, PI and Accessibility.  We need to step up the recruiting effort and DCM Mike G. will help with this effort.  Donnie reminds all GSRs to fill out information change forms as needed to maintain current information for all District positions.

Donnie is involved with the Tuesday Night Step Study ASL Committee and will bring an update from that group at the next District meeting in May.  He also reports that a contribution of $45.00 was received from Tuesday night Men’s Stag toward the ASL interpreter expenses.  Donny has the receipt for the group.

A motion was made to approve the report and it was accepted.

Secretary – Kelly C.G.: Kelly updated the GSR report form with new DCM info. and emailed the form to District Members.  She will officially begin Secretary duties at this meeting and appreciates the group’s patience as she learns the ropes.  Please submit your monthly reports via email if possible so that re-typing is not needed.

Treasurer – Dan P.: To ensure accurate records and follow up, Dan requests that any contributions are submitted with a detail of group information and contact person.

The treasurer’s report for March/April was distributed to members. The beginning checking account had a balance of $3706.55, of which $716.72 was for the Pink Can. The contributions for the month were $563.08. The expenses for the month were $332.65. The “Pink Can” expenses for the month was $0.0. Our Prudent Reserve is $800.00.  Pink Can total of $716.72. Ending available balance of $2,420.26.  Dan requests that any contributions are submitted with a detail of group information and contact person.

A motion was made to approve the report and it was accepted.

CPC – Open

Webmaster – Wayne O.:  Not Present.

Mike G. reports that Wayne is still having computer problems and is working to resolve them.  Mike added the Minutes and picnic flyer and updated the schedule on the District 32 website. Mike and/or Wayne will continue updating district schedules and plans to create redirect email addresses to protect anonymity (e.g., DCM@District32.org would redirect to Mike G. personal email) Check it out at: http://district32aa.org/.  A motion was made to accept the report and it was passed.

PI – Open

Accessibility – Open

Grapevine Literature – Bob H.:  The Grapevine promotion of “Buy one subscription and get one at ˝ price” is still being honored.  Bob encourages members to order now because literature prices will increase in June.  This is a great deal.  A motion was made to accept the report and it was passed.

Treatment and BTG – Dave L.:  Not Present.

Corrections – Dan B: Not Present

Big Books, As Bill Sees It, Grapevines and some other literature were donated by Wednesday Night Women in Recovery.  Teresa will use them for her meetings at the jail.

Archives – Mike M.

Spent some time at storage with Dan P. collecting useful items to display during Auburn Group Anniversary dinner.  Set up archives display at Auburn Group Anniversary dinner and had lots of visitors – about 15 even signed my guest book.  It went off well and I got some new ideas for improving and updating my display.  Is aware that some of the display needs to be updated and he will be working on that during his term.  The archives include three ring binders from the Auburn Group and Miracle Hall.  Many members asked about having more groups create binders.  Mike requests that GSRs bring this idea to their home groups.  The binders would include things like minutes, flyers and possible photographs of group events.  The Quarterly Archives meeting is set for May 2nd in Kirkland and will be hosted by District 38.  Mike plans to attend.

A motion was made to accept the report and it was passed.

Old and New Business:

Mike G. is having the first District 32 picnic committee meeting at his home on Wednesday May 6th.  He is looking for volunteers to help in many areas so spread the word that volunteers are needed to help “Behind the Curtain” to ensure a successful picnic.  Space is reserved at Five Mile Lake on July 19th from 3:00-8:00 p.m.

We still need to get the open positions filled. They are CPC, PI, and Accessibility. Mike G. suggest having an event such as inviting any interested members to attend a potluck/District meeting to learn more about serving.

We need to start working at the 2013 assembly. We are the hosting District. District 18 and 33 want to help.

Announcements for Groups were made and GSR Reports:

Federal Way Tuesday Night SS: Jordan – The group would like to collect the $132.00 for ASL interpreter costs and voted by District 32 to cover two months.  Our general meeting breaks into 3 smaller groups: 1-1st step, 1-Big book and 1-Open Topic.  We do ASL every 2nd Tuesday night.  ASL program is going well.  I missed last GSR meeting but alternate covered.  I’ve been out of town last two weeks so no real report from our meeting other than we are doing good as a meeting.  There has been a larger number of newcomers.  Donnie reports for this group, that groups can donate to the ASL fund if they are able and willing.  Any leftover funds will be donated to District 41’s ASL fund.  It is clarified that any contributions should be made directly to the group treasurer in lieu of the District since a separate account has been set up specifically for this cause.

White River: Teresa – The White River group has a $50.00 contribution toward the ASL interpreter fees.  Last Thursday in June at 6:00 p.m. annual tailgate party BBQ/Potluck.  We provide hamburgers/hot dogs and everyone brings something.  Birthday meeting to follow at 8:00 p.m.  Annual picnic in August – more info to follow later.

Auburn Alkies: Dan P. - We have three rooms available one is revolving step study, two is a Big Book study and the third one is for a called step or topic. Things are starting to fall into place for our campout in August. We have the campsites reserved and are working on the stuff for the auction.

Tuesday Night FW Men’s Stag: Justin H. – Dave is no longer the GSR.  He has been replaced with Justin H.  Since Dave just resigned from the GSR service position, there is no current significant changes.  New chairs and tables were recently implemented at the church.

Federal Way Sunday Step: Jean-Paul – Meeting is still thriving and seeing a handful of newcomers every Sunday.  All service positions are filled and we will be starting planning for the annual potluck picnic soon.

Federal Way Men’s Stag: Ed M.- Well attended meeting with lots of long-term sobriety. Meeting splits into two groups.  FWMS Wagon Wheel campout is August 6-10 at Fort Flaggler State Park.  For more information contact Ed at 206-571-9139.  River Rafting Trip is June 5-7 in Leavenworth / Camping at Blu Shastin RV Park – tents or RVs.  For more information contact Scott M. at 253-377-8688.    Manastash Men’s Retreat is May 29-31.  Contact Jimmy D. at FWMS Saturday morning meeting for more information.  Ed will do his best to get flyers to webmaster for posting.  There are always lots of events planned by this group.

Something New at 302: Aaron W. – This is a newly registered open meeting of AA.  The meeting name comes from myself and house members.  The current average attendance is between 8-14.  I am announcing this meeting at all the meetings I attend.  Currently there are no active members claiming this meeting as their “Home Group”.  I am working on trying to get active members involved.  This is a recovery house and new faces are very welcome and encouraged to attend.

Auburn Group: Lynn S. – Meetings Monday and Friday 10:30 a.m., Saturday morning Women’s at 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m.  Our group just had its 45th Annual dinner last Saturday on April 18th.  It was a success except that we didn’t have enough seating for all the people.  Attendance at the dinner was tremendous.

Brown Bag:  Nancy S. –  Brown Bag is holding its Spring BBQ/B-day meeting on Thursday May 28th.  Food at 11:00 a.m., Meeting as usual at 12:00 with cake and coins.  Meat is provided and cooked by Brown Bag group, all attendees bring a potluck dish.  The BBQ is held in the wooded area behind the parking lot.  Water and soda will also be available.  Attendance is still good.  Business meeting attendance is still good and group conscience is active.

Sober on Saturday:  Mike M. – We are a Big Book study.  Started a new events binder (AA only) for our group.  Then the group decided they needed an archivist.  Guess who got railroaded??  Started “A Vision For You” this week, but I was at the Auburn Group Anniversary dinner.

Federal Way Women:  Becky F. – We are a long standing strong group.  We have a solid core of home group members and active regular attendees.  There are three to five new comers a month.  We have a big book and a 12 and 12 study, the second and third Mondays.  The first Monday is a business meeting; we read a story during the regular meeting.  The last Monday of the month is birthday night – cake, coins, experience-strength-and hope, and an ‘ask it’ basket if time allows. At our April business meeting the group conscience was not to make any purchases unless absolutely necessary.  Our working balance is less than $4 for the second month in a row.  The economic situation has hit our group.  We have asked our members to please consider supporting a bit more, but to certainly give what they can.  We will be using tri-fold schedules in lieu of purchasing King County Schedule books.  We will be able to honor requests for scholarships for members requesting registration to AA sponsored retreats.  We use a separate fund.

Wednesday Night Women in Recovery: Kelly C.G. – We voted at our business meeting to begin holding a quarterly potluck/speaker meeting.  This will be a women-only event with the first one on May 20th beginning at 6:00 p.m.  The group is doing well and has frequent newcomers with many of them returning each week.  Average attendance 20.

Evergreen South Breakfast Group: Tony – New GSR.  We meet on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m.  It’s a very large meeting with 75-80 people attending.

Federal Way Wednesday Open topic:  Bob H.: Our group is strong.  We have a sponsorship coordinator – Jim.  It’s a good meeting.

We closed in the usual manner and adjoined at 8:30 pm

Respectfully Submitted,

Kelly C.G., Secretary

District 32 Meeting

The meeting was opened with the Serenity Prayer, AA Preamble, Traditions and Responsibility Statement

May Birthdays

Mt. St. Helens

Mike G. – DCM

It was a quiet month for the DCM in District 32. Dropped off rent payment to church, and updated information for two groups. Most people should be getting area/district newsletters. Distributed motions that will be presented at the assembly in October so we can start sharing with our groups for feedback. A motion was made to approve the report and it was accepted.

Donnie – Alternate DCM – Not present

Kelly C.G. – Secretary

Emailed April minutes to all members with an email address and distributed hard copies at the meeting. A motion was made to approve the April meeting minutes and the motion was accepted. If you use email and did not receive the minutes, please confirm your email contact information with Kelly. Monthly reports can now be emailed to Kelly at secretary@district32aa.org. A motion was made to approve the report and it was accepted.

Dan P. - Treasurers

The Treasurer’s report for April/May was distributed to members. The beginning checking account had a balance of $3,936.98, of which $716.72 was for the Pink Can. There is a large amount of money for pink can that will be used accordingly by Dan B. for corrections literature. The contributions for the month were $92.00 and pink can contributions were $150.00 leaving a Pink Can balance of $866.72. Ending available balance is $3931.92. A motion was made to approve the report and it was accepted.

PI – Open

CPC - Open

Wayne O. – Webmaster

Mike G. updated the minutes on the website. He will also confirm that redirect emails are up and running (e.g., secretary@district32aa.org). Wayne has somebody to work on his computer and expects a resolution to the problem soon. A motion was made to approve the report and it was accepted.

Accessibility – Leslie B.!!

Leslie B. is present at the meeting and volunteers to be the Accessibility Chairperson for district 32. A motion is made to approve Leslie as Accessibility Chair for District 32 and the motion is passed. Leslie is currently serving as Accessibility Chair at her home group where the following noteworthy issues are being addressed….There are a lot of meeting halls that may be accessible but don’t have wheelchair access in the restrooms. It would be great for groups to discuss this issue and come up with ideas for resolution. If you do have accessible meetings, it would be nice to make sure this is included in the schedule. Continue to look at ways to bring meetings to illiterate, blind, deaf, elderly. Thanks for stepping up Leslie!

Bob – Grape Vine Literature

Literature prices are going up across the board in July. Take advantage of the Grapevine promotion for buy one get one at ˝ price NOW. It’s a great deal and would be beneficial for your group if not used personally. You can also download Grapevine on the internet or download on your I-pod. Increases for literature are roughly $2.00 each for Big books, $1.00 for 12 and 12s and so on. Groups should buy literature now before increase on July 1st. A motion is made to approve the report and it was accepted.

Dave – Treatment & BTG – Not Present

Dan B. – Corrections

Distributed AA Corrections Bridge Program materials to all members present. Note: This is not Bridging the Gap for treatment it is a separate program specifically for inmates. Follow the directions to fill out the form and mail back or return to Dan. As inmates are released, this is a tool for connecting them with a person in recovery on the outside. Dan attended the Corrections quarterly and brought a complete list of jails in our area that he created with Mike G. He is now working on locating any tribal jails and will have those added to the list. Seattle Intergroup handles King County which is Auburn and Federal Way so Dan hasn’t purchased literature for those facilities. The only Grapevine allowed in jails were the July issues. The Grapevine only produced this issue specifically for jails. But as of  March 2009 all grapevines will be printed in perfect binding (no staples). The only other books allowed were soft covered big books. A motion was made to accept Dan’s report and it was accepted.

Mike M. – Archives

I came out long enough to go to the quarterly on the 2nd of May in Kirkland. District 38 hosted. That meant Dave C. and his phenomenal traveling display. We were not disappointed. He had 15? tables full of stuff to look at. Then we got down to business. 1. Roll call: 18 Districts and 1 Intergroup were present; 2.Archivist Report: Trish was in Florida at a previously arranged speaking engagement in Feb. so this was her baptism by fire. She gave us all the particulars of why she feels the repository needs to be moved--ie., too small, not enough light, no bathroom, smells like mildew, etc. It looks like we'll be trying to find a new place near Midway. No work party this summer, workshop instead. If you donate something to the area, please remove all metal yourself (e.g., paperclips, staples, etc.). 3. Quarterly Bids: Nov. 2009--District 39(Bothell), Feb. 2010—This is convoluted. District 33 wanted it because it's their 20th anniversary, but then I pointed out it's our 20th too, and we'd be delighted to co-host. Then District 18 said they were already co-hosting, so I think it's going to be a tri-district. May 2010--District 4(Skagit Valley), Nov. 2010--District 10(Bremerton). After lunch we played AA trivia. Your humble servant kicked everyone's butt, and won another copy of "Our Stories Disclose", which I got signed by our two afternoon speakers-Phyllis C.(51 yrs) from Kirkland, and Ralph B.(53 yrs.) from Empire Way Group. At about 3:00 we concluded with a drawing (District 32 won a copy of "Diary Of Two Motorcycle Hobos, greetings from Lois" and the Lord's Prayer. A motion was made to accept Mike’s report and the report was accepted.

Old Business:

Picnic Committee – Mike G. held the picnic committee meeting but nobody attended. He is working on getting a picnic committee together which currently includes Sheila and Mary from the Federal Way Women’s group. Anna has also expressed an interest in helping again this year. Mike G. will see if Federal Way Men’s stag is interested in cooking. Budget $375.00 so we need to work on how/what of spending. The picnic is July 19th at Five Mile Lake from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Shelter 1. Potluck – meat provided. Sheila is currently working on a flyer for the picnic. Mike M. will get Jim’s keys for storage to give Mike G./Picnic committee for access to storage to look for picnic related items. More volunteers are needed – invite your home group members to volunteer.

Open Positions – CPC and PI – Keep announcing at your home groups. We need to fill these positions.

Hosting Area Assembly – Keep this in mind. Planning will begin in the coming months.

Meeting Schedule for District 32 – Make sure schedule is up to date so that the website can be updated.

Announcements for groups were made and GSR Reports:

Federal Way Women’s – Becky F.

We are starting quarterly potluck/speaker meetings open to all women and children if childcare cannot be arranged. 300th and Military Road. First one Wednesday May 20th . Potluck 6:30 then two speakers starting at 7:30. Group is strong – many returning newcomers. Avg. attendance 20-25.

Brown Bag - Nancy

Birthday BBQ/Potluck in the wooded area behind the church on Thursday May 28th. Methodist Church in Federal Way off of 356th. Bring a dish to share – family welcome. Sober on Saturday – Nine Lakes Baptist Church in Federal Way – Mike M.

What a month for SOS!! 27 here this week, 32 last week(an all-time high since I've been sober). We finished the recovery section of the book and started over. We only made it through the "Forward to the Second Edition" 'cuz everyone had a lot to say about it. Starting to get support from members of other groups who really seem to like our format. Thanks to all and sundry. We could really use some more home group members, though. It's really not fair to the rest of AA that we get to do so much service to the still-suffering alcoholics just because we're a small group.

Auburn Alkies – Dan P.

Group is doing one night a week at intergroup answering phones. This is a good experience.

Federal Way Tues. Night Step Study - Jordan

Annual rafting trip – Blu Shastin RV Park June 5-7th. Pilot ASL meeting had same attendance as last month. Lots of younger newcomers recently. Meeting is doing well.

Anonymity/ Wed. Night 7:30 Auburn - Jeremy

Step Study and 12 & 12. BBQ at Steel Lake July 26th at noon – all are welcome. Smaller group – very laid back. Needs to work with Dan P. on a contribution to the District from his group.

Wed. Nite Open/Federal Way – Bob

Group is solid with new re-commitment from the older founders and home group members. Rotating chair weekly by volunteer who brings a topic for the evening. Good mix of men and women.

We closed in the usual manner and adjourned at 8:30 pm

Respectfully Submitted,

Kelly C.G., Secretary

June Birthdays

June 10th – AA 75 years old

DCM - Mike G.

Mike just learned that David L. gave up his position as Treatment Chair a couple of months back. Bridging The Gap (BTG) sign up sheets were passed out and Mike asked all present to help fill volunteer slots. Mike will update BTG database as volunteers sign up. GSO has requested more money – contributions are down from last year. Literature prices have increased, new price lists are distributed at the meeting. A motion was made to accept Mike’s report and the motion passed.

Alt. DCM – Donnie Not Present

Secretary – Kelly C.G.

A motion was made to approve the May minutes and the motion passed. Kelly again requests that everybody confirm their email address if they would like to receive minutes and submit their monthly reports electronically. A motion was made to accept Kelly’s report and the motion passed.

Treasurer - Mike G. for Dan P.

The Treasurer’s report for May/June was distributed to members. The beginning checking account had a balance of $3,931.92, of which $866.72 was for the Pink Can. The contributions for the month were $168.13 and pink can contributions were $74.00 leaving a Pink Can balance of $940.72. Ending available balance is $2359.33 after deducting $800.00 prudent reserve. A motion was made to approve the report and it was accepted.

CPC - Jean Paul on behalf of CPC

Jean Paul has continued the school program even though he is no longer CPC Chair. High Schools with programs this semester include, Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma, Auburn Moutainview, Decatur High School in Federal Way and West Auburn High School. These programs have been successful and are expected to expand. Jean Paul would like to keep continuity with the school program but would like to expand CPC once a new Chairperson is found. A motion was made to accept the report and the motion passed.

Webmaster – Wayne O.

Wayne’s computer is up and running. He is going through group lists and is updating the online schedule. Mike G. has been posting flyers on the website as well. If you have flyers to post, please email them to Wayne in PDF format if at all possible. A motion was made to accept Wayne’s report and the motion passed.

Grapevine Literature – Bob

Bob attended the quarterly this past weekend in Bellevue. We were informed overall of the reasons why literature prices are increasing. Mainly, expenses have increased across the board so the cost is being passed along. There will not be another volume of Daily Reflections, nor will there be a publication of writings from AA members in remote areas. Remember that the Western Washington Area Assembly is coming up. You will want to register in the near future for the best price. A motion was made to accept Bob’s report and the motion passed.

Corrections – Dan B.

Dan has been working on the corrections pamphlet which lists all the jails in Western Washington. Mike G. designed the pamphlet and Dan is filling in the information. He hasn’t found any correction facilities in District 32. Dan plans to buy 20 GV and 5 La Ninas. Quarterly is this Saturday in Olympia and he plans to attend. A request is made that Dan contacts the Auburn jail about possible meetings. Teresa was informed that Seattle Intergroup would like to buy books for Kent Regional Justice Center and is requesting that we use some of our Pink Can money for correctional literature. Dan commits to purchasing a case of Daily Reflections and a case of Big Books and will deliver them to District 18 for delivery to Kent Regional. Dan will touch base with Intergroup reps about literature needs and procedures at the Quarterly this weekend. A motion was made to accept Dan’s report and the motion was passed.

Archivist – Mike M.

Not much going on this month, but Mike receive the welcome packet from GSO and has been learning how to be an archivist and what an archivist does. It's easy enough collecting archival materials on-line, and he’s been getting some really cool stuff that way for the display, but that's not collecting District 32 historical artifacts. Got some leads--time to follow up on them. Mike is looking into acquiring a recorder for interviews and hopes to buy one as the property of the district for this purpose. A motion was made to accept Mike’s report and the motion passed.

Other business:

Mike G. – Picnic Committee

Sheila made the colorful picnic flyers for distribution at the meeting. There is a rough list of items and budget for the picnic expense, but the plan is to purchase more than last year since the food was short. We need volunteers to cook, clean up, etc. and a couple of other people to bring grills and arrive early for preparation. Please pass the word at your meetings. Nancy donates two large coolers for use at the picnic and Anna offers her BBQ. Jordan offers that BBQs can be warmed up at his house and wheeled down the road if needed since he lives very close. Please pass on lists of volunteers to DCM at District 32 to be added to the committee. Mike will check the storage unit for supplies leftover prior to shopping for the picnic. Becky F. makes a motion that the picnic budget is increased by $200.00 since the funds have not covered all expenses in the past. Dan B. passionately shares his concerns about whether or not the 7th tradition money should cover the cost of the picnic. He notes that the groups donate the money to be self supporting but the groups have failed to support GSO and Intergroup as a whole in recent months. He believes that the money is being spent frivolously on a picnic when it should be used more responsibly. GSR members remind us that this question has come up in the past and has been brought to home groups for discussion. It is group conscience that the picnic take place and that is does promote AA’s primary purpose. Becky’s motion to raise the picnic budget by $200.00 is approved.

CPC, PI and Treatment are still open.

Please pass the word to your groups that these positions are open. If your group does not have an intergroup rep., please promote this position as well.

2013 Area Assembly.

We are hosting and will have to focus in on planning in January.

Seattle Intergroup was broken into a week ago. They have expenses for damage repair but nothing was stolen. The replacement door was ~$500.00

GSR Reports:

Jordan – FINALLY FREE New group forming in Auburn/Federal Way with 5-6 people to start. They will have a location soon for a weekly meeting on Mondays at 7:00 pm. Looking for literature also.

Ed M – Federal Way Men’s Stag - Wagon Wheel Campout flyers – everyone is welcome. Flyers are passed out and will be sent to webmaster for posting. Fort Flagler up by Port Townsend.

Bob – Wed. Nite Step – Meeting is growing – up to 20-25 on a regular basis. Mixed meeting with quite a few newcomers. Good core of older sobriety. Bob will be attending the assembly in October and encourages everyone to attend.

Becky – Federal Way Women We will be turning our service positions over at the end of this month. All 6 month positions are up. We have positions available for 2 greeters, 2 coffee makers, 1 literature, 1 secretary and 1 birthday. Each position also has an alternate. The GSR and Treasurer positions are two years and do not end until December. Our annual clothing swap is happening June 15th. We wish to thank all who helped to get the word out. At our last business meeting we decided to adjust the schedule for the business meeting on the first of the month. We will continue to begin our business meeting at 6:45, however we will not begin our regular meeting until 7:15 and there will be no break in the regular meeting.

Mike M – SOS at Nine Lakes Baptist Church Just finished "Bill's Story". We've had a lot more literature sales than usual this last month. That's a good thing. It shows that the message of recovery our group carries is being received. We finally resolved the meeting accessibility issue to most everyone's satisfaction and I for one am eager to be moving on to other ways we can better serve the still-suffering alcoholic as per "Tradition 5". Come visit. I promise you a brand new opinion on what "recovery through the book" is all about. Dan P. –Auburn Alkees Our meeting is getting bigger and bigger. It is not uncommon for us to have people standing out in the hall at meetings. Our answering of phones at Seattle Intergroup had a bigger turnout (may have been the bribe of potluck/bbq). First planning committee meeting for the August campout is coming up soon.

Jordan– Federal Way Tues. Nite Step Study. 6 month elections tomorrow. Raft trip in June was a huge success, over 100 rafters and many newcomers. Lots of newcomers at this meeting – the group is doing well.

Nancy S. – Brown Bag M-F Noon-1 – Introduced Harrell who volunteered to be alternate GSR. He is a regular attendee at Brown Bag and is always willing to step in to service the Brown Bag and AA as a whole. The BBQ/picnic was a success with 80-90 people. They are planning another BBQ in September. Attendance at meeting is down a little bit due to summer schedules. Still a sound meeting with new recovery attending regularly. As always, Brown Bag welcomes all to join us Monday through Friday 12 noon to 1:00!

Teresa – White River – Last Thursday of the month we celebrate birthday meetings. The last Thursday in June we have a tailgate potluck meeting with hot dogs provided.

Tony – Evergreen South Breakfast Group at Auburn Eagles Will bring flyers to the next meeting for the group’s summer BBQ. Meeting does not do a regular split, they wait until after their BBQ and then split the pot. Had a rocket launch last weekend that was lots of fun. A good meeting.

Kelly – Wed. Nite Women in Recovery The first quarterly speaker/potluck meeting in May was very well attended and a great success. There are always newcomers at our group and we’ve had many “keep coming back” in the last several months. It’s a strong group with several long standing home group members. Join us!

Jean Paul – Federal Way Sunday Step – 8-10 newcomers at each meeting. Last Sunday in July is the group BBQ (7/26).

Lyn – Auburn Group, A huge group – lots of newcomers and older sobriety. Several meetings at this church that are well attended.

July Birthdays

No birthday announcements this meeting

DCM - Mike G.

Mike had fun at the quarterly last week in North Bend. They discussed the motions; the original 3 motions plus 2 new motions that were added. Mike passed out the motions at the District meeting and requested that we go over them with our home groups prior to voting at Assembly in October. He asked us to please note that there are two separate motions relating to American Sign Language. Pre Assembly is August 22nd in Renton where motions will be addressed. Mike will communicate with District 18 to evaluate pros and cons. Bridging the Gap – Mike is still working on gathering volunteers for BTG (note Bridge is for inmates and BTG is for members coming out of treatment). Please sign up if possible and encourage home group members to serve as well. A motion was made to accept Mike’s report and the motion passed.

Alt. DCM – Donnie

Donnie has started a new job and is required to work some nights. Donnie reiterated the importance of pre-assembly attendance, especially for new GSRs. The pre-assembly will be a good experience prior to the assembly in October. Go to the Area 72 website for a schedule of pre-assemblies. We are co-sponsoring August 22nd in Renton, but if you can’t make that one you may attend a different one. There is also assembly information in the Area Newsletter and on the district website. A motion was made to accept Donnie’s report and the motion passed.

Secretary – Kelly C.G.

A motion was made to approve the June minutes and the motion passed. Kelly reminds everybody to confirm their email address if they would like to receive minutes and submit their monthly reports electronically. A motion was made to accept Kelly’s report and the motion passed.

Treasurer - Dan P.

The Treasurer’s report for June/July was distributed to members. The beginning checking account had a balance of $2359.33 and the Pink Can balance was 940.72. Monthly group contributions totaled $417.67 and Dan B. expensed $531.08 of Pink Can funds for literature purchases. Please note that there was also a $6.00 bank fee deducted for a bounced check from one of the groups. Ending balance is $2239.92 less pink can of $409.64 and prudent reserve of $800.00 leaving an ending available balance of $1030.28. A motion was made to accept the report and the motion passed.

Webmaster – Mike G. for Wayne O.

Wayne’s computer is up and running, but he needs some time to refresh himself with procedures. Mike will help with this transition. Mike uploaded the minutes and is posting any flyers they receive. If you have flyers to post please email them to Wayne and Mike G. in PDF format if at all possible. A motion was made to accept the report and the motion passed.

Grapevine Literature – Bob

Grapevine is alive and well. New price lists are out – please let Bob know if you need a new list. Bob has nothing else to report this month. A motion was made to accept Bob’s report and the motion passed.

Corrections – Dan B.

Dan attended the June quarterly in Olympia. The Bridge forms are not getting back to Tacoma – Dan handed more forms out to those requesting them. Bridge volunteers assist inmates in getting to a meeting when they are released. It is important that this happens quickly for various reasons so please volunteer and encourage others to do so as well. Dan bought a case of Big Books and a case of Daily Reflections using the Pink Can funds. He also currently has an order pending for 15 Grapevines and 9 La Ninas. The budget for Corrections has topped out – they have no more money in the budget for literature. They will petition for an additional $6,000.00 in the budget at the Assembly. When books are issued, they become the prisoners’ personal possession. If they do not have their personal inmate number in their books, the books get tossed during cell clean out so we go through lots of books. There are no jails in District 32. Dan stopped by District 44 and was told there is a huge amount of involvement at Purdy and they have requested that no more women apply to volunteer at this time. Dan is contacting corrections chairs in the area to be of service as needed. Mike will post the WWA 72 Correctional Committee pamphlet online since it is public information and may be useful. A motion was made to accept Dan’s report and the motion was passed.

Archivist – Mike M.

Well, I've been a busy beaver this month. I'm working on group history books for SOS and our 1st and 3rd Friday speaker meeting at the Alano club. I'm hoping to start showing them to other groups in September. I've also started one for the south end "Old-timers' Luncheon". This one's probably just going to be attendance rosters going back to 1989. One other project that's really been time consuming-- I've been asked to give a talk on the 7th tradition at the Tacoma Men's Stag meeting tomorrow. Lots of research here-- you gotta make sure all your facts are straight when you're doing this kind of thing. I'll let you all know how it went next month. Oops, almost forgot. My next quarterly is August 1st in Bellingham. A motion was made to accept Mike’s report and the motion passed.

Other business – Mike G.:

Picnic Committee: Sheila did a good job with food inventory and there was just the right amount of supplies. Thanks to Sheila, Mary, Anita, Anna, Mike, Susie and others who stepped up to help manage the event. Things to do different: more ice and organization of baseball field. Rent was 125.00, Costco/Safeway 418.58. Total cost of the picnic was $438.82 – well within budget. Mike proposes that District 32 look for another location option for next years’ picnic due to space and logistics issues. A motion was made to accept Mike’s report and the motion passed.

CPC, PI and Treatment and Accessibility are still open! Please pass the word to your groups that these positions are open. Perhaps it’s harder to get people to step up in the summer months? Kelly volunteered to make a flyer advertising open district positions for distribution at meetings. Jean Paul will send Kelly the electronic version of the District Handbook so that a description can be included on/or as an attachment to the flyer.

2013 Area Assembly. We are hosting and will have to focus in on planning in January.

NEW BUSINESS:

There are some districts and intergroups that have combined. Mike would like to consider combining Intergroup Reps and GSRs in District 32. An advantage would be combined service efforts. We will discuss this further at the next business meeting with more preparation so that all have a better understanding of the pros and cons prior to making any decisions.

GSR Reports:

Jordan – FINALLY FREE - New group at Saint Lukes on 312th and 6th. They have three rooms for an open topic, mixed, open meeting AND childcare on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. They are exploring the additional of an Al-Anon meeting during their same meeting time. They have concerns about accessibility since the meeting is upstairs and several members have health issues. They already have a large meeting with approx. 45 attendees. It’s a great meeting.

Bob – Wed. Nite Open Topic - They have a rotating chair weekly to give everyone a chance to be in service – this seems to work will. The chair for the meeting is responsible for picking a topic. They also have a new position of secretary/literature and a new binder with upcoming events and flyers to pass around the meeting. This system helps to shorten verbal announcements. Group is growing and all are welcome. Come and join us and make this your home group!

Becky – Federal Way Women - Mondays at 7pm

Becky was unable to attend the last business meeting. All service positions are filled including new alternate GSR, Kathy O.) We have an increased number of newcomers – several are now holding service positions. We created supported positions to ease the anxiety and it’s worked out well.

Mike M – SOS - at Nine Lakes Baptist Church/ Sat. @ 8pm

Just finished first half of "We Agnostics". Passed 4 motions at our business meeting this month - all having something to do with money. We agreed to increase our church contribution and prudent reserve another $10, sent $100 to both Intergroup and GSO, and are requesting the district send $500 to both Area & GSO. Mike G., Mike N., & Mike M. attended the district picnic. If you didn't see us, you didn't eat anything. We had a blast helping out, but we're glad it's over for another year.

Dan P. –Auburn Alkees - Join us at our campout the first weekend in August – there is a camping area at the meeting site so bring your tent! Our answering of phones at Seattle Intergroup is lots of fun. We plan a potluck BBQ during our service time and it has worked out well. Long standing meeting with strong attendance.

James – Kent Solid Sobriety at Golden Steer - on 240th in Kent – James is a new GSR. He is familiarizing himself with the handbook. His group is currently looking at options for a summer picnic. Meeting continues to be robust with lots of newcomers. Friendly, inviting atmosphere.

Jordan– Federal Way Tues. Nite Step Study - Average of 70 people with aprox. 8 newcomers. The group is doing well, but rent is high so contribution splits are slim. If attendance of ASL members doesn’t increase, they will scrap the ASL program and send any remaining ASL money to District 41 for their ASL program however at the last business meeting, group conscience was that the ASL service would continue until current fund was gone. There is now another volunteer interested in providing ASL services and the previous volunteer may be available as well. More information about ASL status to follow. The heavily debated business meeting topic of limiting shares to 5 minutes on birthday night will be discussed tomorrow (7/21).

Nancy S. – Brown Bag Group (Meets weekdays every day 12-1 p.m.)

Brown Bag alternate GSR, Harold, is present at the meeting as well. This is a long-standing meeting at 356th & 1st and Sunrise United church. Attendance is down a bit due to summer schedules, but the meeting is still going strong. There are new chairs and co-chairs with a 6 month commitment starting in July. The 2nd BBQ/Birthday/Picnic is Thursday, September 28th at 11:00 a.m. – bring a potluck item and join us in the wooded picnic area behind the church to celebrate AA recovery with 50 or more friends. Birthday meeting with cake starts at noon after food. Flyers will be going out soon. All our welcome at this meeting any time!

Jeremy – Anonymity Group - on 51st in Auburn. Picnic at Steel Lake – Saturday July 25th at noon. Potluck/BBQ - lots of food and fun. Currently 4 or 5 new members. Group is growing – now about 20 members. Open meeting – join us.

Susan – Freedom in Sobriety - Saturday morning at Dennys. Meeting is at 8:30, many early arrivals and lots of attendance from Milam. It’s a good meeting.

Larry – Pacific Group – All is well. No news to report.

Teresa – White River – Thursdays in Auburn at 8:00 – Saint Mathews Episcopal is having some financial struggles so the group raised their rent voluntarily. The last Thursday in July will be a work party on the church grounds with a BBQ potluck followed by the birthday meeting. Join us at 5:00 p.m.

Kelly – Wed. Nite Women in Recovery - The next women-only quarterly speaker/potluck meeting will be held on August 19th at 6pm. The speaker meeting in May was well attended and enjoyed. There are always newcomers at our group and we’ve had many "keep coming back" in the last several months. It’s a strong group with several long standing home group members. Join us!

Jean Paul – Federal Way Sunday Step – 320th across from Decatur High School at Lutheran Church. Need more attendance at business meeting – very low turnout for business meeting is a struggle. Group picnic/BBQ this Sunday. Strong meeting overall.

Lynn S. – Auburn Group - Methodist Church in Auburn with many different meetings. A huge group – lots of newcomers and older sobriety. Several meetings at this church that are well attended. 40-80 people at each meeting. Lynn is looking forward to the pre-assembly in Renton.

August

The meeting was opened with the Serenity Prayer, AA Preamble, Traditions and Responsibility Statement

August Birthdays

Becky – 4 Years

James – 1 year

DCM - Mike G.

Pre-assembly in Renton is this Saturday. We (District 32) are co-sponsoring. Flyers are on the table. Mike also printed more flyers for the General Assembly in October. Mike attended a quarterly meeting in upper Michigan and it was interesting and informative. A motion was made to accept Mike’s report and the motion passed.

Alt. DCM – Donnie

Remember if your group has an Alternate GSR it is great for them to attend the assemblies. If you do not have an alternate, now is a good time recruit. It is never too early to think about your replacement GSR. You do not have to be a GSR or alternate to attend the pre-assembly or assembly. You will not be able to vote, but you can attend the conference. There is one vote per meeting allowed at the assembly. Home groups should be discussing and voting their group conscience on the motions in preparation for the October assembly. A motion was made to accept Donnie’s report and the motion passed.

Secretary – Kelly C.G.

A motion was made to approve the July minutes and the motion passed. Kelly asks about the success of the Trusted Servant volunteer recruitment flyer and suggests continuing circulation. Kelly will update the flyer date for continued circulation among home groups. Please help to distribute the flyers so we can fill open positions. A motion was made to accept Kelly’s report and the motion passed.

Treasurer - Dan P.

The Treasurer’s report for July/August was distributed to members. The beginning checking account had a balance of $2239.92 and the Pink Can balance was 409.64. Monthly group contributions totaled $460.46. Ending balance is $2249.42 less pink can of $609.64 and prudent reserve of $800.00 leaving an ending available balance of $839.78. A motion was made to accept the report and the motion passed.

Webmaster – Mike G. for Wayne O.

Wayne is not present at the meeting. The July minutes and Trusted Service recruitment flyer were posted on the website and old flyers were removed. Dan B. requests that the May minute correction to his Corrections report be posted to the website. A motion was made to accept the report and the motion passed.

Grapevine Literature – Bob

New price lists have been widely distributed and are fully in effect. The September issue arrived today. Bob invites people to share their stories and send them into Grapevine if they like. A motion was made to accept Bob’s report and the motion passed.

Corrections – Dan B.

Dan has been spending the pink can money. He bought 10 La Ninas and 15 Grapevines before the end of June. He has received one receipt from GSO and is awaiting the other so he can be reimbursed. He has been getting involved with Dist. 44 central service office in Tacoma since there aren’t jails located within our district. He went to their district meeting and books he had to donate were well received. The next Corrections quarterly is September 19th in Vancouver, Washington. Dan is tapped out on his budget after submitting mileage reimbursement for attending quarterlies. He has an application to get into McNeil and is awaiting approval. They have asked that no more women apply to come to Purdy due to overwhelming volunteer numbers. Dan suggests that interested volunteers look into Pierce County needs. A case of Big Books and a case of Daily Reflections went into Kent Regional. L.I.P.s (Literature In Prisons) is requesting groups to donate Big Books, 12 x 12s and other books – they would also like old schedules. If your group has donations, send them Dan’s way for this program. A motion was made to accept Dan’s report and the motion was passed.

Archivist – Mike M.

As your district archivist it was my pleasure to attend the quarterly committee meeting in Bellingham this month. Attendance was very poor as no district south of Tacoma and very few from the peninsula were represented. I got some new ideas for group histories from District 11's well-organized display. It was much smaller than the District 38 version, but a good example to try to copy for a normal district. Our secretary had to step down, but Karla stepped right up to fill the void. Steve C. from Renton gave a stirring presentation on why a new up-to-date digitizer would be worth coming up with $1000-$1700 for, and was asked to explore our options and report back at the next quarterly. A motion was made and passed to allow confidential phone, e-mail, & address information to be electronically sent to all committee members (unless an individual wishes to remain anonymous, of course). This effectively rescinds a motion passed in 2005 blocking us from receiving said info. We are still in line to co-host the February quarterly. District 33 wants their own in November 2010, so it will be us and 18 at a site of their choosing. I am still looking for a new home for the repository. I need a bigger space if I’m going to be organizing the existing archives. A small PC with an office program would help too. A motion was made to accept the report and it passed.

Treatment – Open

Mike G. has continued circulation of Bridging the Gap volunteer sign ups and appreciates continued support of the program.

CPC – Open

Accessibility - Open

Other business – Mike G.:

CPC, PI and Treatment and Accessibility are still open! Please pass the word to your groups that these positions are open. Perhaps it’s harder to get people to step up in the summer months?

2013 Area Assembly. We are hosting and will have to focus on planning in January. We will need to form a committee and set up a checking account to begin preparations for this Assembly.

NEW BUSINESS:

A motion is made to increase the Corrections budget another $200.00 to allow for costs (mainly mileage) associated with attending Corrections Quarterlies outside the boundaries of District 32. Group members agree that Dan is doing a great job and is doing his duty well by attending many meetings. There are some concerns that increasing the budget for one committee member may open the need for increasing the budget for several committee members. It happened this year that quarterlies are all over the area, but there are also years when the quarterlies are located nearby. A motion is approved to increase the budget for Corrections in 2009 only to cover travel costs for the next two quarterlies at the current rate of .408 cents per mile. The budget will be re-set to $200.00 at the end of this year.

There is a motion on the table for a detailed accounting of what was submitted this year by Committee Chairs so that a review of expenses can be done in order to make the new budgets in the coming year. This motion did not pass.

GSR Reports:

Jordan – FINALLY FREE - New group at Saint Lukes on 312th and 5th. They have two rooms for meetings and provide childcare. Attendance is going well and they are right at prudent reserve. Another Monday night meeting in the area folded up and donated all of their items to Finally Free. It’s a great meeting.

Bob – Wed. Nite Open Topic – Attendance is up – meeting is going well. They will begin sending money to GSO which has not happened in the past. Home group membership has increased and they average 25 regular attendees with some newcomers. They have a rotating chair weekly to give everyone a chance to be in service – this seems to work will. The chair for the meeting is responsible for picking a topic. Come and join us and make this your home group!

Becky – Federal Way Women / Mondays at 7pm

We are a long standing meeting with supportive recovery. Each meeting we break into two groups: big book and the 12 X 12. When we have new comers we offer a third group for a first step meeting. We celebrate birthdays on the last Monday of the month. We were able to make our group contribution split. Our treasury also prepaid the GSR registration costs to the area assembly. We have 8 members who have volunteered to serve as a “Bridging the Gap” contact. We are also able to offer two scholarships for “It’s a She Thang” woman’s conference in September. We will be holding our group conscience meeting for the motions to the area assembly on Monday Sept 12.

Jordan – Federal Way Tuesday Night Step Study - A long-standing, very large meeting with a stable prudent reserve. We have had lighter than usual attendance likely due to many clean and sober events and nice weather. The group has agreed to cover GSR attendance at the pre-assembly and area assembly. There was heavily debated motion to limit the amount of time a person can share on birthday night but it failed.

Mike M – SOS - at Nine Lakes Baptist Church/ Sat. @ 8pm

We are a big book study group. Almost done with Chapter 5. I'm bringing our chairperson to the Pre-Assembly next week. We updated our preamble to try to get people to stay on topic. Attendance has dropped a little; not sure if it's the weather or the new preamble. Not much else I can think of to report, so I guess I'll sign off for this month. Our new group chairperson is present at the meeting.

Dan P. –Auburn Alkees - Three rooms available and a birthday meeting on the last Sunday of the month. Their group discussed having a group inventory at the last business meeting. They have lost track of some of the group by-laws and would like to refresh. They had their group campout the first weekend in August – it was great weather and another successful event. Thanks to everybody who attended. Dan will contact Debbie A., alternate delegate for Area 72 for group inventory forms.

James – Kent Solid Sobriety at Golden Steer on 240th in Kent – No business meeting was held this past month, but group has voted to cover James’ attendance at the Area Assembly. Attendance has been a little lower than normal, probably due to summer vacations.

Nancy S. – Brown Bag Group (Meets weekdays every day 12-1 p.m.)

This is a long-standing meeting at 356th & 1st and Sunrise United church. The 2nd BBQ/ Birthday/ Picnic is Thursday, September 28th at 11:00 a.m. – bring a potluck item and join us in the wooded picnic area behind the church to celebrate AA recovery with 50 or more friends. Birthday meeting with cake starts at noon after food. Flyers will be going out soon. All our welcome at this meeting any time!

Jeremy – Anonymity Group on 51st in Auburn Open meeting – join us.

Jim S. – Auburn Stag at St. Mathews Episcopal (near Athen’s Pizza) Tuesday nights at 7:30. A couple of newcomers at each meeting. Business on last Tuesday of the month. Everybody has an opportunity to share – even if it means running over. It is a really nice meeting.

Susan – Freedom in Sobriety Saturday morning at Dennys - Numbers are down a little. At the business meeting, they briefly discussed the motions. There is good long term sobriety at the meeting.

Justin – Federal Way Sunday Step 1st & 320th A well attended meeting that provides a great deal of strength, hope and recovery to attendees. There is not enough room or enough chairs. There is always a 1st step meeting, plus a big book study and topic. The group has newcomer packets which are very effective tool/resource to be handed out to the newcomers. They cost .25 cents and help involvement and recovery. The annual picnic was a great success, and has decreased prudent reserve levels. We are encouraging donations from regulars to help restore finances.

Larry – Pacific Group – Monday nights

All is well. We have a new coffee maker, his name is Dennis H.

Teresa – White River – Thursdays in Auburn at 8:00

Kelly – Wed. Nite Women in Recovery The August women-only quarterly speaker/potluck meeting will be held on August 19th at 6pm. The speaker meeting in May was well attended and enjoyed. There are always newcomers at our group and we’ve had many “keep coming back” in the last several months. It’s a strong group with several long standing home group members. Join us!

Jean Paul – Federal Way Sunday Step – 320th across from Decatur High School at Lutheran Church. Need more attendance at business meeting – very low turnout for business meeting is a struggle. Group picnic/BBQ this Sunday. Strong meeting overall.

Lynn S. – Auburn Group Methodist Church in Auburn with many different meetings. A huge group – lots of newcomers and older sobriety. Several meetings at this church that are well attended. 40-80 people at each meeting.

District 32 Meeting Minutes

The meeting was opened with the Serenity Prayer, AA Preamble, Traditions and Responsibility Statement

DCM - Mike G.

Thank you to everybody who attended the pre-assembly. Special thanks to Jordan for helping to set up chairs at the assembly. Mike asks if anybody has questions about the motions. The first two motions are similar, however one of them is only ASL and the other includes ASL and other items. There is a handout for 2009 Assembly Panels for anyone interested in attending panels at the Assembly. Please also note the handouts for Sponsorship conference in Tacoma and the 75th Anniversary in San Antonio. There is also a flyer for an upcoming Treatment Quarterly. If you are interested in the district 32 position for Treatment Chair this would be valuable to attend. A motion was made to accept Mike’s report and the motion passed.

Alt. DCM – Donnie – Not Present

Secretary – Kelly C.G.

A motion was made to approve the August minutes and the motion passed. Kelly asks about the success of the Trusted Servant volunteer recruitment flyer and suggests continuing circulation. Kelly will update the flyer with an open ended date for continued circulation among home groups. Please help to distribute the flyers so we can fill open positions.

Treasurer - Dan P.

The Treasurer’s report for August/September was distributed to members. The beginning checking account had a balance of $2249.42.92 and the Pink Can balance was 609.64. Monthly contributions were $107.54 and Pink Can contribution was $100.00. There was an expense for mileage of $126.50 and Pink Can expense of $90.00 leaving an ending balance of $2240.46 less pink can and prudent reserve of $800.00. Ending available balance is $820.82. A motion was made to accept the report and the motion passed.

Webmaster – Wayne O.

Wayne’s computer is currently being rebuilt and is expected to be back up and running next month so that he can jump back into his Webmaster duties. Mike G. has published the August minutes on the website and he corrected the May minutes to reflect the change to the Corrections report that month as requested by Dan B. A motion was made to accept the report and the motion passed.

Grapevine Literature – Bob

Bob attended the quarterly in Lake Stevens last Saturday. He shows a Welcome packet and suggests that it would be valuable for newcomers. He purchased some of them to disseminate among GSRs. The state Chairperson, Reggie brings a stack to each quarterly for dissemination. They cost about .25 per packet. Grapevine can be downloaded on the internet if you prefer that over hard copy. A motion was made to accept Bob’s report and the motion passed.

Corrections – Dan B.

Quarterly was yesterday in Vancouver. There are problems with the Bridge program. No bridges have gone out yet this year. The standing committee inventory was given to all the DCMs. They are considering a motion from the floor to raise inventory another $1500.00. This is still being discussed. Dan is getting involved with the Central Service office in Puyallup and Pierce county. Dan asks us to note that Purdy and Tacoma Jail have plenty of volunteers – they do not need more. Dan brought 15 Grapevines to the Corrections meeting and all of them were taken quickly. Dan brought 15 of each September/October La Ninas and there was not a lot of interest. Dan will stay involved in Pierce County as the need for corrections literature is great. He received more orders for Big Books, 12 x 12s and Grapevines because the area is out of money and Dan seems to be the only Corrections Chair in Area 72 with access to Pink Can money. Dan encourages GSRs to start a LIPs (Literature In Prisons) box within their groups – the corrections facilities are always in need of books because many get thrown out due to restrictions in the jails with what can be kept. A motion was made to accept Dan’s report and the motion was passed.

Archivist – Mike M.

Mike worked with Steve C. on a motion to acquire funds to buy a digitizer. A discussion took place about the feasibility of a digitizer being purchased for Area 72 to be used among district Archive Chairs. Mike noted concerns about cost for the digitizer and maintenance of the unit if it is being transported often as planned. A motion was made to accept the report and it passed.

Treatment – Open

Emden C. is the alternate chair and is not present. Mike G. will confirm that he is still available to serve as District 32 Treatment Chair until the position is filled.

CPC – Open – Jean Paul reports as a sub-committee

Jean Paul is continuing programs in the schools. He had a meeting at his home last week to check in with program volunteers and brainstorm ideas for improving the programs in schools. Jean Paul is creating a list of available and qualified volunteers. We have been invited to Auburn and Decatur in the Spring and Fall and we also have contacts going in to Mountain View and Auburn High School. Today, we received an inquiry from Todd Beamer for possible panels in each health class which is up to 8 different classes. More volunteers are needed to serve on panels in schools as the program is growing. A motion is made to reimburse Jean Paul for dinner expense for his meeting. The motion passed. A motion was made to accept Jean Paul’s report on behalf of CPC and it passed.

Accessibility – Open

PI -0pen – Wayne O.

A motion is made to give Wayne O. funds to purchase books. The motion passed.

Other business – Mike G.:

CPC, PI and Treatment and Accessibility are still open! Please pass the word to your groups that these positions are open.

2013 Area Assembly. Districts 18 and 33 are interested in co-hosting with District 32 so Mike G. is looking into options. A location for the Assembly to host 700 people will need to be found and reserved. The Area provides seed money and early registration is encouraged to manage budget issues. We will have to focus on planning in January, including the formation of a committee and set up a checking account to begin preparations for this Assembly.

NEW BUSINESS:

Dan B. requests that the Committee budgets are distributed with the Treasurers report. He would like to see a report for each committee showing beginning budget, expenses and available balances so that Chairs are aware if funds are running short. Mike G. states that each Trusted Servant is trusted to govern their budgets. The prudent reserve is in place to ensure that we do not lose track of overall funds available. Those present expressed their concerns about budgetary issues within AA and several noted that a business model cannot be used within the AA system. Any further discussion was tabled for a later date.

GSR Reports:

Jordan – FINALLY FREE New group at Saint Lukes on Monday nights 312th and 5th . They have two rooms for meetings and provide childcare. Attendance is going well and they are right at prudent reserve. Another Monday night meeting in the area folded up and donated all of their items to Finally Free. It’s a great meeting.

Bob – Wed. Nite Open Topic – Meets at 8:00 – it’s going well. Continuing to improve home group base and service commitments. A good meeting.

Voted group conscience regarding motions to the area assembly. The group directed me to vote to pass all motions. Should the debate call for amendments I have Right of Decision. We were able to award 4 scholarships for ˝ registration fee to send 3 members to She Thang in Seaside and one member to Woman to Woman. We were also able to send group contributions.

Jordan – Federal Way Tuesday Night Step Study Breaks into 3 rooms with avg. attendance of 60-80 people. This is a long-standing, very large meeting with a stable prudent reserve. The group has agreed to cover GSR attendance at the pre-assembly and area assembly.

Mike M – SOS at Nine Lakes Baptist Church/ Sat. @ 8pm

Mike registered for Friday & Saturday at the Area Assembly and reserved a motel room for Friday night. SOS voted on the motions at the business meeting. The group voted for the CPC motion simply because it's the best available solution, but we would really like to see all the area committees' budgets brought up to the 21st century.------Step 11 out of the book next week. I wouldn't miss this one for anything in the world. What about you?

Dan P. –Auburn Alkees Three rooms available and a birthday meeting on the last Sunday of the month. Attendance continues to grow and there are newcomers every week. Ten to twelve from the group regularly go to Intergroup on the 2nd Thursday of the month to answer phones. They have a potluck, play board games and socialize while the phones aren’t busy. They are discussing their upcoming gratitude dinner in November.

James – Kent Solid Sobriety at Golden Steer on 240th in Kent – Attendance is back up now that summer is over. James wonders if he should be concerned about not receiving any attendance confirmation for assembly, but usually no confirmation is received so he will just show up.

Nancy S. – Brown Bag Group (Meets weekdays every day 12-1 p.m.)

Attendance is increasing again. This Thursday 9/24 is the 2nd summer BBQ/ Birthday/ Picnic is Thursday at 11:00 a.m. – bring a potluck item and join us in the wooded picnic area behind the church to celebrate AA recovery with 50 or more friends. Birthday meeting with cake starts at noon after food.

Teresa – White River – Thursdays in Auburn at 8:00. The meeting has gotten really big. They now break into 3 smaller meetings instead of two. They will be having their Christmas potluck meeting in December. It’s a lot of fun and more information will be coming soon. The group voted on all the motions at the business meeting and Teresa will attend the Saturday portion of the Assembly. Kent Regional justice center needs more female volunteers for one Thursday evening per month. Contact Elaine Higman at 206-431-2979 if you’re interested and have at least 3 years of sobriety.

Kelly – Wed. Nite Women in Recovery Attendance has grown in the last few weeks, but still fluctuates. Normally about 20 attendees, sometimes more. A great meeting with some solid sobriety. GSO sent a notice that they have not received funds from our group. Our group treasurer, Trish, will get copies of money orders to correct their records – it appears they have us listed as Wed. Nite Women’s Group instead of Wed. Night Women in Recovery which may explain the confusion.

Jean Paul – Federal Way Sunday Step – 320th across from Decatur High School at Lutheran Church. Need more attendance at business meeting. Strong meeting overall.

Lynn S. – Auburn Group Methodist Church in Auburn with many different meetings. A huge group – lots of newcomers and older sobriety. Several meetings at this church that are well attended. 40-80 people at each meeting.

(Resubmitted Corrected Treasurer Report: Beginning balance $2944.89, beginning pink can balance $464.43, monthly group contributions $199.59 and monthly pink can contributions $45.45. GSR and Committee expenses $341.38 and pink can expense $320.00. Ending Balance $2528.55 less pink can of $189.88 and prudent reserve of $800.00 leaves ending available balance of $1538.67). Archivist – Mike M. – Not Present / submitted written report

Finally made phone contact with Terry I. (District 18 Archivist) regarding February quarterly. I gave him Eliza’s phone # & he emailed me a preliminary flyer for my approval. We met at the quarterly last Saturday and went over some more details. Business from the quarterly – One of the steering committee members had to step down due to poor health, but Steve C. from Renton was willing and well qualified to step in. The steering committee overwhelmingly approved his appointment. New email address for sending in district minutes is up and running: archivesrepository@area72aa.org. Michelle Mizra (Class B non-alcoholic) has accepted the position of GSO Archivist. Dave C. attended the National Archives workshop in California. Next one will be in Macon, GA next September. The steering committee has decided not to pursue acquiring a high-speed digitizer. Instead, they will be presenting a motion for the area to fully fund the Area Archivist to National Archives workshop. Stay tuned—more will be revealed. In service, Mike M.

CPC – Open – Jean Paul reports as a sub-committee

Jean Paul is continuing programs in the schools. He has a program scheduled every week for the next six weeks. They had their first three 90 minute classes at Todd Beamer. The groups went well and the teens were very interested and engaged. The next few weeks there are programs scheduled at Decatur, West Auburn, Bellarmine, Auburn High School and Auburn Riverside. He has only been sober since July, but he has been attending AA meetings since the 1970s in Ohio with his mother. He is happy to be here. He has spoken with Jean Paul about the position and is eager to do his part as a trusted servant. A vote was taken to accept Matt V. as the new area CPC Chairperson. Matt was found to be qualified and was officially voted in as District 32’s new CPC Chairperson. Welcome Matt!

2013 Area Assembly. Mike G. reminds us that we are hosting the 2013 Area Assembly with districts 18 and 33. There is a planning meeting scheduled for January to establish committee chairs and nail down details. Jordan has continued the search for a venue location for the Assembly to host 700 people – there is a suggestion for Emerald Downs – Jordan will look into this option. Jordan is hoping to connect with the Casey Treat ministries to look at options within their properties. We will have to focus on planning in January, including the formation of a committee and set up of a checking account to begin preparations for this Assembly.

NEW BUSINESS:

James moves to increase the prudent reserve from $800.00 to $1,000.00 since contributions are down. Discussion: Costs are not going down, but contributions are. Our committees could be doing more, but don’t due to lack of funds. The prudent reserve should equal three months operating expense. If we have full committees running with quarterlies, which have been farther away lately (e.g., Port Townsend, Vancouver) then expenses will increase. The motion to raise the prudent reserve from $800.00 to $1,000.00 is passed unanimously.

GSR Reports:

Eliza – FINALLY FREE New group at Saint Lukes on Monday nights at 7 pm -312th and 5th . Open meeting with childcare and an Alanon meeting attached. The Alanon meeting is a new addition in the past couple of months. Attendance was down but it is building again. Solid core group and they are now in the schedule book!

Bob – Wed. Nite Open Topic – Meets at 8:00 at the Church of the Good Shepherd on 312th. They average 20-30 attendees. They change chairpersons each week and that seems to inspire the group and encourage newcomers to chair meetings. Also, new coffee pot with fresher coffee.

Jordan – Federal Way Tuesday Night Step Study 8:00-9:30 Meeting still needs money. We are sharing Gratitude dinner with As Bill Sees It. Our assistant secretary had to take over the meeting. We are building our prudent reserve. Our group has gotten younger and smaller.

Becky – Federal Way Women / Mondays at 7pm

We will be turning all our service positions over at the end of this month. All 6 month positions are up. We have positions available to 2 greeters, 2 coffee makers, 1 literature, 1 secretary and 1 birthday. Each position also has an alternate. The GSR and Treasurer positions are two years and are also turning over at the end of December. Our annual Gratitude Potluck is happening this evening, November 16th. We have two speakers. We wish to thank all who helped get the word out. At our last business meeting we decided to again help out families within our group. We will help 4 families with a holiday gift card. We also voted to create a ―LIP‖ box (Literature In Prisons). We were able to make our group contribution split.

Tony – Auburn Eagles – Open meeting/Open topic on Sundays. We are the breakfast meeting with no breakfast (ha ha). However we do have many members who meet at Diamond Jim’s or Sunbreak Café after the meeting for breakfast and fellowship. Many of our members have double digit sobriety.

Mike M – SOS at Nine Lakes Baptist Church/ Sat. @ 8pm

All is well. We’re in the middle of ―To Employers‖. Attendance is a little down from the summer, but oddly, contributions aren’t. We decided to send another $150.00 each to Seattle Intergroup and GSO. Please note – SOS does not contribute to district or area in protest of what the group conscience perceives as mismanagement of funds.
